The Exquisite Silence

20 March - 25 May 2025
Presented by Tom Potisit

Overview

This exhibition by Jittima Sangeamsunthron reflects the power of serene silence amidst a spectrum of emotions and feelings—be it confusion, sadness, loneliness, or isolation—all of which serve as a testament to the multifaceted nature of human emotion. In this exhibition, the artist, with over 30 years of photography experience, employs a variety of photographic processes, including traditional, digital, and alternative methods, using flowers from their own garden as the medium to experiment and convey these emotions.

The term ‘photography’ originates from the Greek words ‘phos’ (light) and ‘graphê’ (writing or recording), collectively meaning ‘drawing or recording with light.’ For artists, light is not merely a tool for creating images but a medium to convey beauty, emotions, and profound tranquillity through photography. Combining the creativity of alternative photography, rooted in traditional techniques but reinterpreted to fit the modern era, these works transcend the boundaries of mere image recording through technology, merging art and science to create tangible images full of personality and reflecting the creator’s emotions.

‘The Exquisite Silence’ is like the melody of a classical symphony, serving as an understanding companion that offers solace and calms the chaos within the mind. It opens a space for the profound beauty of silence to emerge, replacing chaos with tranquillity. In this stillness, the artist captures the delicateness of flowers, undisturbed by external noise, as a reflection of the natural beauty inherent in everyday life.

The works in this exhibition not only reveal the intricate details of the flowers in the garden but also the profound connection between nature and the serenity within the human mind.

Although life may not always be perfectly beautiful, the artist finds beauty in the simplicity of silence—a beauty that offers positivity and encouragement to viewers. Thus, ‘The Exquisite Silence’ is not merely a reflection of the serene elegance captured in photographic works; it is an invitation to experience the silence. This silence serves as a safe place, enabling a deeper appreciation of life’s fleeting moments and inspiring strength to navigate the complex emotions of daily life.

With a heart that becomes both stronger and more kind.
